To mark the completion of the project at Topdara, a formal hand-over ceremony took place at the site on 17.10.2020, attended by officials from the Ministry of Information & Culture, the Mayor of Charikar, and community representatives. ACHCO initiated conservation activity at Topdara, in parallel with similar work at Tepe Maranjan in Kabul, in 2016 and has since undertaken the conservation of the largest surviving stupa in Afghanistan, along with support for archaeological excavations in close collaboration with the Afghan Institute of Archaeology. On both sites, excavated areas have been left partially exposed (a protective roof has been erected over the most vulnerable zone at Topdara) to enable further archaeology in the future, as resources allow. A publication outlining the work carried out on both sites is in preparation.
